Are Klaus and Caroline headed for romance?

After last week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries," we were so focused on Stefan and Elena's emotional break-up, we barely had time to process the fight between Tyler and Caroline. Tyler's temper flared up when he found out that Caroline had promised to go on a date with Klaus, in exchange for the life of one of Klaus's hybrids.

At the time, Caroline was focused on saving Elena -- just like everyone in Mystic Falls usually is -- and she didn't consider the fact that the hybrid in question was a member of Tyler's pack. To say that Tyler was angry about the situation is a bit of an understatement. He'll be taking Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) to next week's Miss Mystic Falls dance, and though it's supposed to be part of the ruse to help the hybrids break their sire bond, the tension forming between Caroline and Tyler is very real.

Which brings us to this week's web clip, in which Caroline tries to stand her ground against Klaus's thus-far-unrequited affection. Still, it would seem that his puppy dog stare is wearing her down, because she decides to let him escort her to the town function, as long as he doesn't expect too much fanfare.

"It's going to let us see maybe the lighter side, the softer side of Klaus," Candice Accola tells us of the "Klaroline" dynamic in this episode. "What's so appealing to the viewer and so fun for us is that it's sexy, because every scene that they're in, there's really a push and pull. It feels like a big game, and as frustrating as games are, they're really fun to watch on TV. That's what the appeal is with these two characters. The games, though, can also lead to revealing different perspectives and higher truths, letting you see a little deeper into both of these people."
